FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team moved up two positions to pick up the No. 8 spot in the latest ESPN Mid-Major Rankings (Feb. 6). The rankings are based on the women’s basketball blog of ESPN's Graham Hays.
This marks the second time this season that the Eagles have appeared in Hays’ Mid-Major Top 10. FGCU was ranked No. 10 in the Jan. 23 rankings.
Said Hays of FGCU, "Monday’s 66-50 win at North Florida almost qualifies as a nail-biter by Florida Gulf Coast standards. The Eagles keep rolling in their conference, and their next four opponents all have at least five A-Sun losses already. Oregon State transfer Brittany Kennedy is quietly having a terrific all-around season, averaging 10.6 points, 5.5 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 steals while shooting 53 percent and maintaining a two-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio."
The Green and Blue, who have compiled an impressive 51-1 record in A-Sun home games since making the move to Division I in 2007-08, will be back in action on Saturday, February 9, when they host the Spartans of USC Upstate at ‘The Nest’. The game, which is the second contest in a double-header with the men’s team, will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
