FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team took the No. 11 position in the 19th edition of the 2012-13 CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced late on Tuesday evening. The Eagles were ranked No. 11 in last week’s poll.
Delaware (27-3), ranked No. 15 in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll, along with No. 20 Green Bay (26-2), Gonzaga (27-5), Toledo (27-2) and Princeton (22-6) hold the top five spots in the poll.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.
The Green and Blue, who rank second in the nation in three-point field goals made per game (9.3), are one of two Atlantic Sun Conference teams represented in the poll. Stetson is ranked No. 21 this week.
The Eagles (27-6) will be in action next when they participate in their sixth consecutive Division I postseason tournament in a little over a week. On Monday, March 18 (7 p.m.), FGCU will find out if they will be awarded an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, but if not the Green and Blue will be participating in the WNIT for the fifth time in program history. The WNIT bracket will be announced late Monday night.
