FORT MYERS, Fla. —  Junior third-baseman/pitcher Zack Tillery (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier HS) became the second player from the FGCU baseball program to be chosen in the 2014 MLB Draft on Saturday afternoon, as he was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 13th  round with the 380th pick.

The Naples, Fla. native hit .314 in 50 games as the everyday third-baseman for the Eagles. Tillery picked up 58 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, six homeruns and 39 RBI while building a .476 slugging percentage and a .388 on-base percentage in 2014. The highlight of his season at the plate came in the A-Sun Tournament semifinal opposite Lipscomb when Tillery lifted a grand slam over the left-field wall that secured the game.

On the mound, Tillery began the season as a starter before moving to the bullpen. The junior posted a 4.04 ERA and a 2-2 record with five saves in 16 appearances. He threw a total of 35.2 innings, allowed 39 hits, gave up 16 earned runs and walked just 14 against 28 strikeouts while opponents hit .285.

For his career, Tillery hit .279 in three seasons while collecting 142 hits, 17 doubles, two triples, eight homeruns and drove in a total of 79 runs. On the mound, Tillery built a 3.94 career ERA with a 7-4 record and five saves in 33 appearances and 15 starts. He would strike out 56 batters and allow 42 earned runs while opponents hit .274.

Junior outfielder Michael Suchy (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) became the first FGCU baseball player off the board in the 2014 MLB Draft on Friday, as he was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth round with the 161st pick.

Suchy was the 20th player in the program’s 12-year history to be drafted and the second-highest selection behind 2010 Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year Chris Sale who was picked with the 13th overall selection by the Chicago White Sox in 2010. He became the seventh FGCU player to be selected in the top 10 rounds.

FGCU signee Dash Winningham was selected by the Mets in the eighth round with the 235th pick. Winningham is a first-baseman/pitcher from Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, Fla.

The Eagles finished the season with a 39-22 record and their 19-8 mark in the A-Sun earned the program a fourth A-Sun Regular Season Championship. Fans can get updates and information on FGCU baseball by visiting Facebook.com/FGCUBaseball or by following the team on twitter @FGCU_Baseball.
