@FGCUEagles To Host Four, Potentially Eight, Atlantic Sun Championships In 2014-15

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Atlantic Sun Conference officials have announced the championship sites for the 2014-15 season, and FGCU is set to host at least four league tournaments with the potential for the Eagles to host as many as eight next year.

FGCU was selected to host volleyball (Nov. 20-22), sand volleyball (Apr. 17-18), softball (May 6-9) and baseball (May 20-24). In addition, the Green and Blue could potentially host women’s soccer (Nov. 1-9), men’s soccer (Nov. 12-16), men’s basketball (Mar. 3-8) and women’s basketball (TBD).

The regular-season champion in soccer and basketball hosts the respective league tournaments, and FGCU earned the No. 1 seed and subsequent hosting duties for all four championships during the 2013-14 season. In addition to those four tournaments, the Eagles also hosted the sand volleyball and baseball A-Sun championships last year.

During the 2013-14 campaign, FGCU became the first A-Sun school since 2009 to win five regular-season championships as the Green and Blue brought home titles in women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball.

In just seven years as a Division-I member, FGCU has won a combined 36 conference regular season and tournament titles as a member of the A-Sun and Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association. In just three years of D-I postseason eligibility, FGCU has made 14 total NCAA Championship appearances (team and individual).
