FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University Department of Athletics has announced the addition of Jamie Church to the athletics communication staff, as released by Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh. Church joined FGCU as the Assistant Director of Athletics Communication on Monday, Sept. 9.
Church will serve as the primary media contact for FGCU’s women’s basketball, women’s golf, softball, volleyball and sand volleyball teams. She will also be responsible for the department’s graphic design output and will assist in video production and social media efforts.
A native of Stanhope, N.J., Church spent the past two years with Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey as the Assistant Director of Athletics Communication. She spent the year prior as an Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant at FDU.
“I am honored and excited to join the athletic department at FGCU,” explained Church. “I have admired the way this group works together and strives to continue its success. I am eager to be part of such a strong system.”
During the 2012-13 academic year, Church served as the primary media contact for the Knights’ men’s basketball, cross country, women’s bowling, women’s soccer, softball, track and field and women’s volleyball programs. She has previous experience with women’s basketball, golf and fencing.
While at FDU, Church spearheaded the media campaign to publicize two-time women’s bowling national player of the year, Danielle McEwan. McEwan also earned three Northeast Conference Player of the Year awards in that time span and was the lone representative of the United States on the world stage.
In three years, Church’s efforts resulted in three individuals earning NEC Player of the Year honors, two athletes named NEC Rookie of the Year, a two-time national coach of the year and a dozen all-conference selections. Church also aided the women’s bowling program in three NCAA National Collegiate tournaments, including the 2012 NCAA National Championship final.
“From the beginning of the hiring process, Jamie’s professionalism, excitement and plan for the future of FGCU athletics set her apart from a strong field,” Jason MacBain, Director of Athletics Communication, said. “Her experience, attention to detail and creative approach to communication has prepared her well to help continue to expand the FGCU expand.”
Additionally, Church was instrumental in the startup of FDU’s social media efforts and the Knights’ live video streaming initiative.
Church is a 2010 graduate of Colby-Sawyer College where she completed a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a minor in Communication Studies. She earned a Master’s of Sports Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in May 2013.
