Women's Cross Country 17th at South Region Championships
DADE CITY, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's cross country team finished 17th at the NCAA Division II South Region meet at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City on Saturday.
Sophomore Cadie Sly (25:17) placed 53rd over the 6,00-meter course, followed by junior Katy Steffan (25:43)in 63rd, freshman Marie Scarpantonio (27:24) in 94th, junior Lindsey Garven (27:33)in 96th and freshman Cindy Watson (27:37) in 98th.
Lyndsey Kelly (27:58) finished 100th while senior Antoinette Savino (34:01), who became the first four-year runner in FGCU history this year, finished 129th.
With three runners in the top ten and all five scorers in the top 25, Harding University won the team title. Tampa was second, followed by Alabama-Huntsville with Central Arkansas capturing the final qualifying spot in fourth place.
Four individual qualifiers, led by meet winner Aoife Cooke of Arkansas Tech (21:21) will join the four top teams at the Division II Women’s Championship Nov. 19 at Chino, California.
It was the first trip to the Division II South Regional championship meet for FGCU.
