FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU cross country teams will be competing in the Miami Greentree Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami, on Friday, September 5th.  This will be the first meet of the 2008 season for both the men’s and women’s teams, and it is also the first meet for both teams under the direction of new head coach Cassandra Goodson.

FGCU’s men’s cross country team returns four letter winners led by Grant Berkerey, the lone senior.  The women’s team will also return four letter winners led by Marie Scarpantonio, the lone senior on the women’s team.  Coach Goodson said, "We have a very young team but all of the kids are excited about the new season, and they all seem to feed off of each other's excitement."

In the Atlantic Sun preseason coaches poll the Eagles were ranked seventh, tied with Mercer, while the women’s team was ranked ninth.  As for the expectations for the 2008 season, Coach Goodson said, "The biggest thing I'm looking for is improvement.  I am very excited for this first race to see who steps up."

The women’s 5K race is scheduled to begin at 6 PM, while the men’s 8K race is scheduled for 6:40 PM.
