FGCU Women's Cross Country Announces Recruiting Class
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women's cross country team strengthened its program by announcing the addition of four freshmen runners for the fall of 2009. Barrie Cohen, Shannon Compher, Leigh Mumford, and Claire Stodghill will all enter FGCU as freshmen in the fall of 2009.
Compher comes to FGCU from Hagerty High School. A four-year honor roll student, Compher was the Seminole Athletic Conference Champion and All-Central Florida in 2008 and was the Most Outstanding Girls Cross-Country runner in 2009.
Voorhees, New Jersey native Barrie Cohen was a strong runner at Eastern Regional High School. Cohen currently holds her school’s record in the 3200m and was a member of relay teams that set school records in three events.
Mumford is coming from one of the most successful high school programs in the state. While at Bishop Kenny High School, Mumford’s Second Team All-State selection helped the Crusaders to their eighth State Championship. In addition to her All-State selection, Mumford was First Team All-Region and First Team for District II.
The final member of the 2009 incoming freshmen class is Claire Stodghill of Tallahassee, Fla. Stodghill enters FGCU after a strong senior season at Leon High School. She led her team at the Conference Championships while receiving the “All Panhandle Team” award.
