Cohen Paces FGCU with a School-Record Time at Disney Invite
ORLANDO, Fla. – Sophomore Barrie Cohen (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) led the FGCU women’s cross country with her record-setting time for the third straight meet. The Eagles placed seventh out of 24 teams at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning.
The University of South Carolina placed first in the meet with 67 points while FGCU tallied 204 points. FAU’s Friederike Feil finished first with a time of 17:42.20.
Cohen finished in 17th out of 219 runners with a time of 18:28.10. The time bests her personal and school record of 18:42 set at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on October 2. The sophomore has now paced the Eagles for three straight meets, setting the school record in each of those runs.
Sophomore Shannon Compher (Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty HS) finished in 27th with a time of 18:47.20, which is 24 seconds faster than her time from the Lakefront Invitational. Freshman Kelly Perzanowski (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville HS) (18:54.30) placed 33rd and sophomore Claire Stodghill (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon HS) clocked in at 19:41.90 for a 67th-place finish. Stodghill took nine seconds off her time set in Chicago.
Freshmen Marjorie Ducos (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park HS) and Caity Hoffman (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Mangus HS) placed 75th and 77th, respectively. Ducos crossed the finish line with at time of 19:55.10 while Hoffman finished at 20:00.33. Senior Megan Thies (Brandon, Fla./Brandon HS) rounded out the top FGCU finishers with a time of 20:11.80 for an 89th-place finish.
The Eagles have their tune-up before the Atlantic Sun championship at the Hatter Invitational on Friday, October 15 in DeLand, Fla.
