Cohen Leads Cross Country to Program-Best Sixth Place Finish
Cohen sets school record; Perzanowski earn All-Freshman honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore Barrie Cohen (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) led the FGCU women’s cross country team to a program-best sixth place finish at the 2010 Atlantic Sun Championship at Milliken Research Park on Saturday morning.
UNF won the championship for the first time in conference history with 55 points with Lipscomb and Jacksonville taking second and third, respectively. Kennesaw State’s MacKenzie Howe was the individual champion.
Cohen finished 15th with a school record time of 18:13.62, just missing a place on the All-Conference team by one spot. Improving her previous fastest time by 15 seconds, Cohen now owns four times on the program’s top time list.
Freshman Kelly Perzanowski (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) finished just behind Cohen in 16th place with a time of 18:16.72. She took a full 28 seconds off her season fastest time and earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.
Sophomore Shannon Compher (Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty) finished in 20th place with a time of 18:29.72. Her time is now the third-best in program history for a sophomore.
Classmates Caity Hoffman (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) (19:35.56) and Marjorie Ducos (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) (19:58.12) to finish in 53rd and 60th, respectively. Sophomore Leigh Mumford (Clemson, S.C./Bishop Kenny) finished right behind Ducos with a time of 19:58.72.
Running in the final meet of her career on a twisted ankle, senior Megan Thies (Brandon, Fla./Brandon) rounded crossed the line at 21:11.25 and a 75th-place finish. On the flip side, freshman Gretchen MacMillan (Ocala, Fla./West Port) ran her first conference championship, rounding out the FGCU runners with a time of 21:37.38.
