Cohen, Perzanowski Wrap up NCAA Cross Country South Regional
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Representing the FGCU women's team at the NCAA Division I Cross Country South Regional for the first time in program history, junior Barrie Cohen (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) and sophomore Kelly Perzanowski (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville HS) traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Saturday to compete at the 6K event hosted by Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course.
“Barrie had a phenomenal race this morning,” said fourth-year head coach Cassandra Harbin. “To set a personal record in a 6K, especially on this course which was incredibly hilly, says a lot about her performance today. She was also able to beat a lot of runners she was unable to beat at conference this year, which is another positive from today. Both girls had a lot of fun competing at this high level against a lot of great teams.”
Having led the Green and Blue through all six team events this fall season, Cohen was able to establish a new program-record on Saturday, crossing the finish line at the 22:14.3 mark to place 61st in the field of 191 runners. The Voorhees, N.J. product shaved 29 seconds off her previous program-record time of 22:43.87 which she set at the UCF Invitational (Oct. 14) earlier this season.
Also representing the Eagles at the regional event, Perzanowski clocked a time of 24:06.4 which placed her 150th overall. Finishing one-two with Cohen in five of the six competitions this fall season, the Saturday race marked just the second time running in a 6K event this year for both runners.
With the top four individual runners advancing from the event, the 2011 fall season comes to completion for the pair of Eagles.
61. Barrie Cohen - 22:14.3
150. Kelly Perzanowski - 24:06.4
