Best Finish in Program History for Women's Cross Country at the Mt. Dew Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU women’s cross country team placed fifth out of 18 at the at the Mt. Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida early Saturday morning. Junior Kelly Perzanowski (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville HS) led the Eagles with a 17th place finish with a time of 18:33.2.

Perzanowski’s time is good for sixth all-time at FGCU in the 5K event. The fifth place finish overall is also the highest finish for the Eagles all-time at the invitational. The highest finish for FGCU before this year was seventh in 2007 and 2010.

“We have made good strides from the last meet.” said head coach Cassandra Goodson. “The women gave a good effort today through this hard training process. Now we have to see what happens in a month."

Host, University of Florida finished first overall with a score of 15 followed by North Florida with a score of 63. UCF and Tampa finished third and fourth respectively. The Eagles followed with a fifth place finish with 199 points.

Senior Barrie Cohen (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) was second to finish for the Eagles and 26th overall with a time of 19:09.6. followed by freshman Courtney Corradetti (San Diego, Ca./Vista HS) who finished right behind Cohen in 27th with a time 19:10.7.

Sophomore Ali Wilbur (Saint James City, Fla./Ida S. Baker HS) finished in 67th place with a time of 20:13.0 and junior Gretchen MacMillan (Ocala, Fla./West Port HS) came in at 20:47.9 in 91st place.

Classmate Caity Hoffman (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Mangus HS) finished in 103rd place with a time of 21:04.7 and freshman Savanah Lacey (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo HS) followed Hoffman with a 118th place finish with a time of 21:34.6.

Junior Alyssa Sawyer (Key West Fla./Key West HS) rounded out the competitors for FGCU when she came in at 23:21.2.

The Eagles will be back in action Saturday, September 29 when they travel to Louisville, Ky. for the Greater Louisville Classic.
