Women's Cross Country Finishes 7th at A-Sun Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn., - The FGCU women’s cross country team took seventh place in the Atlantic Conference Championships held in Nashville, Tenn., today.

“I was really pleased with the outcome today,” said Head Coach Chris Highfield. “Their performance was a really great team effort. Angela Hegge and Megan Thies ran great today. For Hegge, earning A-Sun All-Freshman honors was certainly well deserved. I am very proud of her. Cadie Sly has been a team leader for us all year and she stepped up again today finished career on high note.”

Hegge paced the squad with 19:36 and finished 18th overall. Thies was right behind with a 19:36 in 19th place. Sly crossed in 30th place with a time of 20:08 in her final race as an Eagle. Jessica Zabel ran a 20:46 in her final race as an Eagle as well. Casey Hasten was the final Eagle to score in the meet with a 21:02, finishing in 56th.

The Eagles picked up 174 points to earn their 7th place finish. Belmont won the event with a team score of 53 and Kennesaw State was second, scoring 83.
