FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU cross country teams have announced a challenging 2009 schedule that includes five meets from September through October in preparation for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Oct. 31.

The Eagles stay close to home throughout the season, beginning with the University of Miami Greentree Invitational on Friday, Sept. 4, at Tropical Park in Miami, Fla. The women are set for a 6 p.m. start, while the men will follow at 6:40 p.m. Two weeks later, FGCU heads to Gainesville, Fla. to run in the University of Florida Gator Invite on Sept. 19 at the UF Golf Course. The women will start at 8 a.m., with the men following at 8:30 a.m.

FGCU will then participate in the Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2. Megan Thies’ (Brandon, Fla.) 12th place finish and Alex Stoermer’s (Orlando, Fla.) 22nd place finish led the Eagles to fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively, at the 2008 Invite.

Two weeks later, the Eagles head to DeLand, Fla. to participate in the Stetson Hatter Invite (Oct. 16) at the Sperling Sports Complex. The women will start at 4:30 p.m., while the men follow at 5:10 p.m.

FGCU will host its only dual meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 24, at a site that will be announced at a later date. The men will take off at 8 a.m., followed by the women at 8:40 a.m. The FGCU Invitational serves as a final tune-up before Stetson hosts the 2009 Cross Country Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Oct. 31. The men are looking to build on a seventh-place finish in 2008, while the women took ninth at the event a year ago.
