DELAND, Fla. – The FGCU cross country teams participated in the Sodexho Stetson Hatter Invitational on Friday evening. The men finished seventh out of 18 schools, while the women finished eighth out of 20 schools. The races were held at the Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand, Florida.
For the men, Jonathan Lanning (Sarasota, Fla.) paced the Eagles with a time of 27:39, good for 26th place. Just behind him in 31st place, Kyle Brunette (Venice, Fla.) checked in with a 27:51. Joshua Brooks (Fort Myers, Fla.) recorded a time of 28:17, giving him 39th place. As a team, FGCU placed seventh, as a pair of A-Sun rivals placed first (ETSU) and this (UNF), with Embry-Riddle taking second place.
For the women, Megan Thies (Brandon, Fla.) led the way, finishing 25th with a time of 19:40. Barrie Cohen (Voorhees, N.J.) was the second-fastest finisher for FGCU with a time of 20:48, placing 59th overall. Michelle Kuhnen (Eau Claire, Wisc.) came in 71st with a 21:20 finish. The Eagles took eighth place overall, as UNF won the event with USF taking second and FAU finishing third.
The Eagles will be back in action next week when they host the FGCU Invitational on Friday, October 23rd. The men will run first at 5 PM with the women’s race set to begin at 5:30. The event will take place at Estero Community Park and admission is free to the public.
