FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU cross country teams announced a challenging 2010 schedule that includes five meets from September through October in preparation for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Oct. 30 on the campus of USC Upstate.
The teams stay in the state of Florida to begin their schedule with a trip to Davie, Fla., for the King of the Hill Elite Invitational hosted by the University of Miami on Sunday, Sept. 5. The women and men will both run 5K races with the women beginning at 7:45 a.m. and the men following at 8:05 a.m.
FGCU rounds out September when it heads to Gainesville for the Florida Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the UF Golf Course. The women begin at 8 a.m. with the men following at 8:30 a.m
The Eagles open October when they travel north to participate in the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola Chicago on Oct. 2. The men will race an 8K at 11 a.m., while the women will run a 5K and take off at 11:45 a.m.
After a year-hiatus from the Walt Disney World Classic, the Eagles return to the event on Saturday, Oct. 9 in Orlando. FGCU runs at the Stetson Hatter Invitational on Friday, Oct. 15 in DeLand, Fla., as the final tune-up before the A-Sun Championships.
USC Upstate serves as host for the A-Sun Conference Championships in Spartangburg, S.C. on Sat., Oct. 30. The Milliken Complex welcomes the league’s 11 teams for the men’s 8K and women’s 5K.
The women finished in seventh last season at the Conference Championship which was highlighted by Megan Thies shattering the school’s 5k record, finishing in 23rd place with a time of 18:55. The men took eighth and saw now-sophomore Jonathan Lanning and now-senior Joshua Brooks place in the top 40.
