Women's Cross Country Opens at King of the Hill Invite

DAVIE, Fla. – The FGCU cross country teams opened their season with both teams placing second at the 4th Annual King of the Hill Elite NCAA Invitational on Sunday morning at Vista View Park.

The women’s squad earned 61 points with five runners finishing in the top 25 out of 45 total runners. Miami finished first with 31 points. The Eagles ran alongside of Miami as well as FIU, FAU and Nova Southeastern in the Wildside.com hosted event.

In her first collegiate meet, freshman Kelly Perzanowski was the first finisher for the Eagle women, crossing the finish line at 20:39 for a fourth-place finish. Sophomore Barrie Cohen rounded out the top 10, clocking in at 21:20.

Freshman Caity Hoffman (21:32) finished just 12 seconds behind Cohen in 12th and classmate Marjorie Ducos rounded out the top 20 with a 19th-place finish, running a 22:06.

The top returner from the 2009 season, senior Megan Thies ran a 22:32 to finish in 21st while freshman Gretchen MacMillan (23:21) and sophomore Claire Stodgill (23:52) finished in the 26th and 27th places, respectively

FGCU rounds out September when it heads to Gainesville, Fla. for the Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by Florida on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the UF Golf Course. The women begin their 5K at 8 a.m..
