ORLANDO, Fla. – In its final tune-up before the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, the FGCU women’s cross country team ran to a fourth place finish in the 16-team field at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge on Friday evening in Orlando, Fla. Junior Barrie Cohen (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) led the Eagles through the 6K event, taking fifth place overall.
“The women competed well this evening running in the 6K race,” said fourth-year head coach Cassandra Harbin. “This was our final competition before the A-Sun championship, and I am pleased with a fourth place finish heading into that event.”
Competing in their first 6K event of the season, the Eagles took fourth place with a score of 110. Each finishing with 88 points, UCF took the team victory over A-Sun foe Jacksonville with the sixth runner’s score being the deciding factor.
Leading the Eagles for the fifth straight event, Cohen earned the fifth place finish with a time of 22:43.87 in the field of 128 runners. With the Green and Blue competing in the first 6K event since the 2006 season, Cohen’s time set a new program record at the event.

Hoffman crossed the finish line at the 23:52.78 mark, ahead of Perzanowski’s time of 23:55.26. Also placing in the top 25 was sophomore Marjorie Ducos (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park HS), who’s time of 23:59.28 was good for 23rd overall.
