TALLAHASSEE – Ready to run for the fourth time this season, the FGCU cross country teams return to action on Friday with the Seminole Invite, racing through Florida State’s Apalachee Regional Park. The women’s 5k will take off at 6:20 p.m. with the men’s 8k immediately following.
“We’re glad to be getting back to competing this weekend,” head coach Cassandra Goodson said. “After a tough race with less than perfect weather conditions in Minnesota it’s nice to be back in our home state. We’ve been working hard the past two weeks and are eager to see how it pays off.”
A complete list of teams is not yet available, but results will be available immediately following the race on Half-Mile Timing
BEATING THE BIG DOGS
Racing against some of college cross county’s best in September’s Roy Griak Invitational, two members of the team finished ahead of notorious high-major programs. For the women, Kelly Perzanowski (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville HS) cruised to a 45th-place, surpassing runners from No. 20 Vanderbilt, No. 21 NC State and No. 26 Iowa State. Perzanowski’s representation of her team in the top-50, was something high-major runners from Nebraska, South Carolina, Iowa, Wyoming and Colorado State failed to do. Outpacing runners from No. 24 NC State, No. 29 Arizona State, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Iowa, Arizona, Colorado State and Georgia, senior Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) led the men’s team in the 8k.
Representing FGCU in the women’s 5k, a distance they have not run since the first meet of the season, are Perzanowski, Alicen Wilbur (Pine Island, Fla./Ida S. Baker HS), Courtney Corradetti (Oceanside, Calif./Vista HS), Stephanie Cajas (Lithia, Fla./Newsome HS), Regan Farrow (Oviedo, Fla./Lake Howell HS), Emily Perkinson (Orlando, Fla./Colonial HS), Kelsey English (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township HS), and Savannah Lacey (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo HS).
Joining Cruz on the course this weekend are Charles Bengtson (West Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard HS), Courtland Bernard (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota HS), Austin Boetje (Lawrenceville, Ga./Mill Creek HS/Georgia State), Jose Cartagena (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Estero HS), Alex Delle Monache (Welland, Ontario/E.L. Crossley), Aaron Rojas (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) and Chris Rudloff (Ormond Beach, Fla./Mainland HS).
After they return from the capital city, the Eagles will travel to Orlando for the UCF Black & Gold Invitational Oct. 18.
