Women's Golf Places 4th at Lady Herd Intercollegiate

CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate, hosted by Marshall University, at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club Tuesday. Eagles’ freshman Heather Hagerman (New Port Richey, Fla.) shot a 3-over 75 in the final round but fell one stroke short of winning the individual championship. Coastal Carolina’s Katy Heher held a two-stroke lead over Hagerman heading into the final round of play but carded a 4-over 76 over the final 18 holes. Heher’s 222 (72-74-76) was good enough to edge Hagerman’s 223 (77-71-75) for medalist honors Coastal Carolina won the team championship with a three-round score of 908, 36 strokes ahead of runner-up Marshall (946). Defending champion Western Carolina (949) finished third. FGCU junior Brittany Bertilson (Austin, Minn.) placed 17th with a score of 237 (85-79-73). Eagle freshmen Natalie Lueck (Beaver Falls, Penn.) and Hallie Schweitzer (Flower Mound, Tex.) finished with scores of 239 and 252, respectively. Lueck finished 23rd while Schweitzer tied with Jennifer Rhee of St. John’s in 58th. Lightning and thunderstorms cut Monday’s second round short and forced its postponement until Tuesday morning. FGCU returns to action April 2-5 at the Tusculum College Invitational.
