Women's Golf Signs Courtney Figueroa
FORT MYERS, Fla., - The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s golf program has announced their first Division I signee. Head women’s golf coach Holly Vaughn has signed Courtney Figueroa to a national letter of intent.
Figueroa comes to FGCU after a standout prep career at St. John Neumann High School in Naples. She is a three-time Florida High School Athletic Association district champion. In 2005, she was named the News-Press Southwest Florida High School girls player of the year. Entering her senior season, she has an undefeated record as an individual in all high school regular season matches.
She has also assembled an impressive career in the American Junior Golf Association. Figueroa has recorded a pair of top-four finishes while also recording three top-ten finishes in American Junior Golf Association events. She chose FGCU over North Carolina, Kentucky and Notre Dame.
“Courtney is one of the top juniors in the state of Florida,” stated Coach Vaughn. “She will make an immediate impact on our program that will help us move to next level. I am very excited about her future here at FGCU.”
The women’s golf program was selected as the 3rd best golf program according to the second annual Golf Digest College Golf Guide. Last year, the women’s golf team finished the season as the 7th ranked team in the NCAA Division II South region and opens up the season at the 29th Pat Bradley Invitational on February 18th in Kendall, Fla.
