Women's Golf Wins FGCU Fall Invitational
FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU women’s golf team won the FGCU Fall Invitational by two strokes as Heather Hagerman won the individual title by four shots as well.
The Eagles won their first tournament since the 2003-04 season where they won two tournaments. Hagerman shot 73 on both days to easily capture the individual title. Under tough, windy conditions, the Eagles posted a team score of 313 to overcome an 11 stroke deficit to win by two strokes. Jessica Paulmann fired a 78 in the final round. Amber Pedersen and Courtney Figueroa each posted 81’s to round out the scoring for the Eagles. Pedersen finished 14th, tied with Maria Venot with 159. Figueroa was one stroke behind and placed 16th. Paulmann’s 162 over two days was good for 19th in the event.
“This is a great way to begin the year, winning our first tournament of the year at home,” said head coach Holly Vaughn. “This will build confidence in our team and will be something to build on.”
Bethune-Cookman shot the low round of the day with a 305 to finish second. FAU, day one’s leader wound up third after shooting a 327 for a combined score of 623, one shot behind Bethune-Cookman. FGCU’s Atlantic Sun rivals Stetson and USC Upstate finished fourth and fifth with team scores of 631 and 634 respectively. Barry rounded out the field with a team score of 637.
The Eagles next fall tournament is October 13 in Daytona, Fla., at the LPGA International Xavier Invitational.
