Tuesday, February 26, 2008

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – FGCU finished tenth at the rain-shortened Fighting Camel Spring Classic women’s golf tournament Tuesday at Keith Hills Country Club No. 1.

After thunderstorms passed through the area during Tuesday’s second round of the 36-hole event, the course was unplayable due to wet conditions. Monday’s 18-hole scores will stand as final for the 15th-annual event.

Campbell, which shot a 13-over-par 301 on Monday, won team honors by 14 strokes over second-place Elon (315). Memphis (316) finished third. The Eagles shot a 39-over-par 327 to take tenth place.

The tournament was FGCU’s second tournament of the spring season.

FGCU senior Heather Hagerman (New Port Richey, Fla.) was the Eagles’ top finisher. She shot a six-over 78 on Monday to tie for 12th place. Sophomore Amber Pedersen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) tied for 17th place at 79, while freshmen Katerina and Kastania Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla.) finshed tied for 33rd and 67th, respectively. Sophomore Louise Skelly (Glenn Dale, Md.) rounded out FGCU’s scorecard by finishing tied for 70th at plus-18 (90).

The Lady Eagles return to tournament play Mar. 5 at the NIU Springlake Invitational in Sebring, Fla.
