FGCU Women's Golf Opens Play at 2010 JU Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf team got the spring season underway on Monday morning at the 2010 JU Classic in Jacksonville, Fla. at the Hidden Hills Country Club. At the conclusion of the opening round, the Eagles are tied for seventh with Presbyterian College in the field of 11.

Through the first round, the Blue and Green combined for a team score of 323 which put them in a seventh place tie with Presbyterian, ahead of Bethune-Cookman, North Dakota and South Dakota to round out the field. Tournament host Jacksonville (322) and Bradley (321) sit just above the Eagles on the leaderboard, in sixth and fifth place respectively. Daytona State College leads all schools, turning in a 298 at the conclusion of day one.

FGCU junior Katerina Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla.) is the only participant to place inside the top 10 for the Eagles, currently in a five-way tie for eighth overall with a one-round 77. Senior Amber Pedersen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) is in a two-way tie for 23rd with Daytona State’s Ericka Schneider, each submitting an 80. Daytona State’s Amy West sits alone atop the leaderboard with a single round 69.

The final round of the 2010 JU Classic will tee off on Tuesday morning with an 8:30 a.m. split tees start.
