Eagles Head North for JMU-Eagle Landing Invitational
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf team will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for the JMU-Eagle Landing Invitational at the Eagle Landing Golf Course at Oakleaf Plantation. The three-day, three-round event will tee off on Sunday and conclude on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles will take to the course with Florida, Chattanooga, Illinois, East Carolina, Kennesaw State, Stetson, James Madison, South Florida, Elon, Central Arkansas, Kansas State, Yale, Iowa, Longwood, Jacksonville, High Point, and Georgetown. Chattanooga will look to defend their team and individual title, submitting an aggregate 866 (291-292-283) behind Emma de Groot’s 212 (72-71-69) in last year’s competition.
The 18-hole course at Eagle Landing features 2,789 yards from the junior tees and 7,037 yards from the back tees for a par of 72. Eagle Landing is the fourth course in the Jacksonville area designed by Clyde Johnston of Clyde Johnston Designs, Inc. in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Johnston calls the course a collection of classic holes, using designs by some of golf’s original architects.
In their last outing, the Eagle five combined for a score of 635 (323-312) placing them in fifth of 11 at the 2010 JU Classic (2/22/10). FGCU had three participants place inside the top 25 out of the 60 individuals. Senior Amber Pedersen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) took 15th overall with a 157 (80-77), which earned her A-Sun Golfer of the Month honors for February. Freshman Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla.) submitted a 158 (84-74), which tied for 16th on the individual board and junior Lina Elmsater (Solna, Sweden) also placed in the top 25 with a 161 (82-79), tying for 24th overall.
