Thursday, March 25, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women’s golf team will travel to Crystal River, Fla. for the 2010 UC Women’s Spring Invitational at the Plantation Inn Golf Resort and Spa. The two-day, three-round event will tee off on Friday and conclude on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles will take to the course with tournament host Cincinnati, Dartmouth, Embry Riddle, Florida Atlantic, Florida Southern, Houston Baptist, Hofstra, Illinois, Jacksonville University, Memphis, Montana, Ohio University, Rutgers, South Dakota State, St. Andrews, Stetson, and Alabama–Birmingham.

The course at Plantation Golf Resort & Spa was designed by Mark Mahannah to be unlike any other, with plenty of challenges for even the most experienced golfers. The 18-hole course has been the host of several North Florida PGA events in past years.

In the final round of competition the Eagles turned in a score of 309, bringing the team’s three-round tournament scorecard to 916 (305-302-309) and placing them in seventh place on the 17-team leaderboard. As individuals, senior Amber Pedersen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and freshman Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla.) finished in a four-way tie for seventh place overall with a 224, (77-71-76) and (75-75-74) respectively.
