Women's Golf Sits Third at Canes and Cardinal Classic

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – The 2010 Canes and Cardinal Classic completed the opening two rounds of competition on Monday at Don Shula’s Golf Resort in Miami Lakes, Fla. The FGCU women’s golf team is currently in third place in the field of 10, with Tuesday’s final round remaining.

The Eagles were in seventh place after an opening round 313, but submitted a two-round 618 (313-305) to move into third place on the leaderboard at the conclusion of day one. Rounding out the field is Akron (619), Cincinnati (630), Miami (630), Jacksonville (631), Penn State (637), Troy (640), and Texas-Pan American (661). Maryland leads all schools into the final round with a 609 (302-307).

The Blue and Green claim four individuals in the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. Senior Amber Pedersen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and freshman Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla.) are both tied for ninth with a 153, (76-77) and (79-74) respectively. Junior Lina Elmsater (Solna, Sweden) is tied for 12th with a two-round 154 (78-76) and fellow classmate Katerina Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla.) submitted a 158 (80-78), good for a share of 25th overall. Akron’s Kristen Hill is the current leader with a score of 143 (73-70).

The final round of the 2010 Canes and Cardinal Classic will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday morning.
