NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf team concluded the 2009-10 campaign with a fifth place finish at the 2010 A-Sun Championship at the Venetian Bay Golf Club on Wednesday. All five FGCU participants placed in the top 30 overall, led by freshman Briana Carlson’s third place finish.

The Blue and Green led the field of 10 after setting a first-round scoring record with a 6-over 294, breaking Campbell’s mark of 296 set in 2007. The Eagles fired consecutive rounds of 298 over the final two days, moving the five-member team total to 890 (294-298-298) and placing them fifth overall.

Stetson shot the lowest team score in championship history to earn the Atlantic Sun Conference title with an 884 (306-292-286), the team’s second straight trophy.

On the individual leaderboard, freshman Briana Carlson submitted the top score for FGCU with a 218 (72-73-73) which was good for third place. Seniors Jessica Paulmann (Sarasota, Fla.) and Amber Pedersen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) also scored inside the top 20 overall. ETSU's Lauren Jansone led wire-to-wire on her way to shooting a 3-under par total of 213, the second-best 54-hole score in conference history. She becomes only the fifth player in conference history to win the conference title multiple times, joining FIU’s Moira Dunn (1991-93), Campbell’s Mara Larrauri (1997-98), Georgia State’s Lisbeth Meincke (2003-05) and Campbell’s Alejandra Shaw (2006-07).
