FORT MYERS, Fla. – Following the opening round of play at the Pelican Preserve Country Club, the FGCU women’s golf team sits in seventh place in the field of 15 at the 33rd annual Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU in Fort Myers, Fla. Leading the Eagles, sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) holds a share of sixth place overall.

On day one the Eagles fired an opening round 308 to position themselves in seventh place, ahead of in-state rivals FIU (309), Stetson (311) and FAU (312) in eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively. The Blue and Green are just two strokes back of South Alabama, who holds sixth place with a 306, while Western Michigan leads the field with a round one 291.

Ranking among the day’s leaders in par 3 scoring (2.75), par 4 scoring (even), pars (12) and birdies (3), Carlson paces the FGCU squad into the tournament’s second round at even par 72, which is good for a share of sixth on the individual leaderboard.

“I’m pleased with the way Briana played through the opening round,” said first year head coach Meghan Spero. “She was really positive in her approach and was strong mentally in her game today. She’s really been working hard on these aspects of her game and I really feel that the results are starting to show.”
