Women's Golf Finishes Eighth at Pat Bradley Invitational
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Improving upon their team score for the second consecutive day, the FGCU women’s golf team wrapped up play at the 33rd annual Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU in eighth place at the Pelican Preserve Country Club in Fort Myers, Fla. on Tuesday.
In the field of 15 teams, FGCU held eighth place heading into the final day of the event after firing rounds of 308 and 302, respectively, in the opening two rounds of play. The Eagles continued to improve their team score in the final round, shooting a 301 for a three-day total of 911.
“I’m proud of the way the team competed throughout the event and how they kept improving in each of the three days,” said first-year head coach Meghan Spero. “They continue to become more focused as tournaments progress and I feel that this is a great confidence builder heading into the spring season and conference play.”
North Texas took the individual team title with an 876 (294-294-288), while tournament host FIU finished in sole possession of fifth place with an 895 (309-294-292).
On the 77-player leaderboard, sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) carded her second even-par 72 of the tournament on Tuesday, bringing her tournament total to 217 (72-73-72) for a share of fourth place overall. The accounting major finished second in total birdies (11) and third in par 3 scoring (-1), while ranking among the top performers in par 4 scoring (even).
Submitting her best round to this point in the fall season, senior Lina Elmsater (Stockholm, Sweden/Pfeiffer University) turned in a one-under par 71 to close out the competition. Finishing 21st with her total at 225 (76-78-71), Elmsater was among the best in par 3 scoring (+2), par 5 scoring (-1) and total pars (39).
Additionally, freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) finished the third tournament of the fall season with a 235 (82-74-79), while junior transfer Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) handed in a 239 (78-77-84). Senior Katerina Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast HS) rounded out the Eagle participants with a three-day total at 242 (84-79-79).
The Eagles have just one more fall tournament remaining as they take part in the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla. on Nov. 8-9. The event is set for 36 holes on day one and 18 holes on day two, with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start on each day.
