Fall Season Concludes at Stetson Invite for Women's Golf

FORT MYERS, Fla. – In their final tournament of the fall season, the FGCU women’s golf team will travel to DeLand, Fla. to take part in the Stetson Invitational at the Victoria Hills Golf Club on Nov. 8-9.

The 18-hole Victoria Hills course plays 6,989 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72, a course rating of 73.5 and it has a slope rating of 142. Designed by Ron Garl, the Victoria Hills golf course opened for play in 2001.

This year’s field will feature nine competing schools, including Bethune-Cookman, Daytona State College, FAU, McNeese State and Jacksonville State, as well as, A-Sun foes Lipscomb, host Stetson, USC-Upstate and FGCU.

The Blue and Green first competed in the Stetson Invitational during the 2007 fall season, also at the Victoria Hills Golf Club. In the nine-team field, FGCU finished in third place with a three-day total of 931 (311-310-310).

In last weekend’s 33rd annual Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU, the Eagles fired rounds of 308 and 302, respectively, in the opening two rounds of play and followed with a 301 in the final round, to finish in eighth place in the 15-team field with a 911.

On the 77-player leaderboard, sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) carded her second even-par 72 of the tournament on Tuesday, bringing her tournament total to 217 (72-73-72) for a share of fourth place overall. Senior Lina Elmsater (Stockholm, Sweden/Pfeiffer University) submitted her best round of the fall season, turning in a one-under par 71 to close out the competition in 21st with a 225 (76-78-71).

Forming the five-member team at this weekend’s event along with Carlson will be senior Katerina Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast HS), junior transfer Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University), sophomore Caroline Lennox (Trinity, Fla./The Pendelton School) and freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS).

The Stetson Invitational is set for 36 holes on day one and 18 holes on day two, with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start on each day.
