Women's Golf Finishes Second Round at JMU Invite

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla., the FGCU women’s golf team wrapped up the second round of play at the James Madison/Eagle Landing Invitational at Eagle Landing Golf Club. Sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus H.S.) continues to lead the Eagles, sitting in tie for second place heading into the final round.

Individually, Carlson has paced the Blue and Green through the two rounds, scoring a second round 76 for a two-day total of 146 (70-76), moving into a four-way share of second on the 98-player leaderboard. Carlson led the field into the day's play following a 2-under, 70 in Friday's opening round.

As a team, the Eagles opened the tournament with a 305 on Friday to claim a share of fourth place overall. However the Blue and Green combined for a 317 on Saturday for a two-round score of 622, dropping into a split of 15th. At the top of the 18-team leaderboard, No. 34 Chattanooga holds a 581 (296-285), 13 strokes better than second place East Carolina’s 594 (304-290).

Adding to the FGCU score on Saturday, junior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) submitted an 81 for a two-round total of 156 (75-81) and freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) carded a 78 for a score of 158 (80-78) heading into Sunday. Senior Lina Elmsater (Stockholm, Sweden/Pfeiffer University) rounded out the scoring for the Blue and Green with an 82, bringing her total to 164 (82-82).

Chattanooga’s Christine Wolfe sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 3-under, 141 (75-66) after turning in a 6-under, 66 in round two.

The closing round of the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational will get underway on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. Final results from the tournament will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com at the conclusion of the event.
