Rain Cancels Final Round of Hall of Fame Classic
Tuesday, April 05, 2011

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Inclement weather in the St. Augustine, Fla. area has forced the cancellation of Tuesday’s final round of the Hall of Fame Classic at the World Golf Village. Proving to be the final leaderboard, the FGCU women's golf team finished Monday in a share of fourth place in the nine-team field.

On Monday, the Blue and Green combined for a 314 in the first round and followed with a 317 in round two. Due to the rain cancellation of Tuesday’s play, the Eagles finished the event in a share of fourth overall with Cincinnati, each submitting scores of 631.

Daytona State College was awarded the team title with a 611 (308-303), sitting just three strokes ahead of Atlantic Sun Conference member Stetson (313-301/614).

For the fourth time in as many tournaments, sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) placed in the top 5 individually. Following back-to-back rounds of three-over par 75 for a total of 150, the Inverness, Fla. native wrapped up the rain-shortened event in a three-way tie for third on the 51-player leaderboard.

Also contributing to the Blue and Green scorecard, senior Lina Elmsater (Stockholm, Sweden/Pfeiffer University) finished in a tied for 24th with a 161 (81-80), while classmate Katerina Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast HS) scored a 163 (86-77). In a share of 35th, junior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) (80-85) and freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) (78-87) each submitted scores of 165 through the two rounds.

Earning medalist honors, Daytona State’s Mitsuki Katahira turned in a 141 following an opening round 73 and a four-under par 68 in round two.

The Eagles now turn their attention to the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. This year’s event will be held at the Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand, Fla. from April 11-13. FGCU will be paired with Stetson and Mercer during Monday's opening round. Results and recaps from each round at the A-Sun Championship will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com following each day.
