FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU first-year head coach Sarah Trew has announced the addition of Daytona State transfer Cassie Cleary (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS/Daytona State College) to the women’s golf program for the upcoming 2011-12 season.

“We are very excited to have Cassie join the FGCU family,” commented Trew. “She has been part of a winning program at Daytona State and knows the kind of hard work and dedication it takes to get to that level. She is a true competitor and team player, and will certainly help us get to where we want to be.”

Transferring to FGCU following two years of competition at Daytona State College, Cleary will join the Eagles for the upcoming fall season as a junior.

During her time with the Lady Falcons, the Punta Gorda, Fla. product was a member of a pair of National Championship teams during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Cleary finished 10th at the 2011 NJCAA National Golf Championship and 8th in 2010, earning second team All-American honors each season. Additionally, Cleary helped the Lady Falcons to three team victories a season ago.

The Green and Blue open the 2011 campaign with a trip to Lincoln, Neb. for the Chip-N-Club Invitational hosted by Nebraska beginning Sept. 12.
