Women's Golf Enters Final Round of Hatter Classic in Fourth Place

DeLAND, Fla. – After playing the opening 36 holes on Monday at the Holiday Inn Express Hatter Classic, the FGCU women’s golf team sits in fourth place on the eight-team leaderboard. Entering Tuesday’s final round at the Victoria Hills Golf Club, senior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) leads the Eagles, sitting in third place on the 45-player leaderboard.

The Eagles opened the event with a score of 316 in round one, which was good for third place. Improving their score by one stroke, 315, in the second round, the Green and Blue moved down into fourth place with a combined day one scorecard of 631. Jacksonville sits ahead of the Eagles with a 317-300/617, while USC Upstate trails FGCU by five strokes, 324-312/636. Tournament host Stetson leads the field into the final round with a total score of 297-307/604.

With back-to-back rounds of one-over 73, Haremza sits in sole possession of third place on the leaderboard with a score of 146. The senior leads the field in par 5 scoring (-4), while among the leaders in par 4 scoring (+3), total pars (23) and birdies (6).

Also in the top 25 on the leaderboard, freshman Kristin Swindell (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River HS) and sophomore Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) sit in shares of 15th and 25th, respectively. Swindell opened with an 80 and came back with a 78 in round two for a day one score of 158, while ranking among the best in total pars with 22. Van Etten submitted rounds of 83 and 80 for a day one scorecard of 163, and scoring one-over on par 3s to rank among the best in the field.

Contributing counting scores in each of the two rounds on the day, freshman Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) sits tied for 27th entering Tuesday. The newcomer used an opening round score of 80 and finished the afternoon round with an 84 for a score of 164. Junior Cassie Cleary (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS/Daytona State College) rounded out the Eagle squad at the event, sitting in 41st with a score of 87-86/173.
