JEYKLL ISLAND, Ga. – After carding a program-best, total round score of 291 on day two of the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Tuesday morning at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga., the FGCU women’s golf team find themselves in second place on the 10-team leaderboard.

“Today was an awesome round for us. We set a low scoring record and played well across the board,” said head coach Sarah Trew. “Briana (Carlson) played so well out there, only making one bogey, the whole round. Kristin (Swindell) birdied three out of her last four to shoot even and Georgia (Price) played solid all day long. I’m so excited for the girls that their hard work is paying off but we know we are not finished yet. We still have one more round to go with some work to do. We are in a great place and are looking forward to hopefully having our best round of the tournament tomorrow.”

The Eagles’ five-member squad opened the tournament with a team score of 298 to sit alone in fifth place, then shot a program record 291 to jump three strokes ahead of Mercer (592) in second place. The second round score of 291, tied for the lowest score of the day with ETSU. Five teams sit 600 or under after day two, with ETSU leading the field into the final round of competition with a total team score of 578. FGCU (589), Mercer (592), Kennesaw St. (594) and Stetson (600) round out the rest of the top five teams.

Finishing the day in the Top 10 on the leaderboard, sophomore Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS), redshirt freshman Kristin Swindell (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River HS) and redshirt junior Briana Carlson (Inverness Fla./Citrus HS)  sit in a ties for fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively.
