@FGCU_WGOLF to Face Top Competition at 36th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational
SARASOTA, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf team will travel to nearby Sarasota Sunday, Oct. 20-Tuesday, Oct. 22 for the 36th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. The three-day event will feature three rounds on the 6,288 yard Cypress Links Course.
The annual Pat Bradley Invitational is one of the nation’s longest-running collegiate golf events. Named after the golf icon and FIU’s first All-American, the event was initiated by FIU in 1977.
There have been 16 different team champions, led by FIU with eight titles. Miami, Florida, South Florida and Tulsa have all won multiple events, while the host Panthers have earned the tournament crown in three of the last five years. The event began at Hollywood Lakes Country Club in Hollywood, Fla. and has since been played at 13 different courses. 2013 is the second-consecutive year that the event will take place at Lakewood Ranch.
This year’s event will include 17 teams. The Eagles will challenge Bethune-Cookman, Bradley, Cincinnati, Daytona State, Delaware, Drake, FAU, FIU, Jacksonville, Maryland, Memphis, Missouri, North Texas, Southern Miss., Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Western Illinois.
The Pat Bradley Invitational is a 54-hole tournament with 18 holes played on each day. The first two rounds will have a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, with the final round teeing off at 9:00 a.m. After the first round, hole assignments will be determined by teams’ 18-hole, and 36-hole scores.
The Eagles will utilize a lineup of Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus High School, Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School), Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane), Megan VanEtten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School) and Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central High School). Emma Smyser (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast High School) will play as an individual in the event.
The Green and Blue have appeared in the Pat Bradley Invitational in each of the last six seasons. In last year’s appearance at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club, the Eagles finished seventh with a top-10 performance by Price and a top-15 mark from Carlson.
After earning a first-place finish at the 2013 Eagle Invitational at Worthington Country Club, the Eagles struggled at the Xavier LPGA Invitational. The team will look to finish the fall season with a strong performance.
