@FGCU_WGolf Inks Two in Early Signing Period
FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women’s golf head coach Sarah Trew announced Wednesday the signing of Gabrielle Brackrog and Madison Easterbrook. The duo will join the Green and Blue for the 2014-15 academic year.
“I am elated with the class we are signing,” explained Trew. “We have two young ladies coming in that are not only great golfers, but exceptional students. They are both extremely hard workers and are determined to be successful at whatever task they take on. They are a perfect fit for the FGCU family and for the women’s golf program.”
As a senior, Brackrog has been a three-time letterwinner at Milford High School and was twice named captain of the high school team. Brackrog has set each Milford High School girls’ golf program record, including the 18-hole scoring record (72) and the 9-hole scoring record (35). The Detroit, Mich. native was named an All-Conference honoree on three occasions and earned two First Team All-County awards.
In 2012, Brackrog placed seventh overall in the Division II Michigan State finals and earned the tournament crown at the Oakland County Championship. During the 2013 season, Brackrog placed among the top-10 in all but one tournament. She has also received Honorable Mention and First-Team All-State accolades.
Academically, Brackrog holds a 4.18 grade point average and was named a member of the Academic All-State Team.
“Gabby has tons of potential,” said Trew. “She’s coming to us with a lot of local and regional experience. Her game is very steady and I think coming to a climate where she can play 365 days a year, as opposed to just six months a year, is going to help her improve rapidly. Gabby is a competitor and is willing to do whatever it takes to improve her game to the next level.”
Easterbrook will join the Eagles as their third international student-athlete as she hails from Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Easterbrook attends Aldershot High School where she was a two-time Maple Leaf Junior Tour National Champion. In 2013, Easterbrook shot games of 70 and 76 to win the tournament by 11 strokes.
Easterbrook has been a member of the highly selective Team Ontario, which consists of just four other female players and recently represented Canada at the Srixon International Junior Classic in Australia. She also placed 24th in the Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship.
“Maddie is a tremendously well-rounded individual and comes to us with a wealth of experience, having already found success on a local, regional and international level,” boasted Trew. “I knew after our first conversation that she would fit right in with our program and where we are trying to go. One of the things I like about her is that nothing seems to faze her. She can have a bad hole, but bounce back with three-straight birdies. She is a grinder and never gives up.”
The FGCU women’s golf team will resume competition at the Florida State Matchup in February. The pair of early signees will join the team next fall as freshmen.
