ORANGE PARK, Fla. – With a team score of 300 in the second round of action, the FGCU women’s golf team moved up two positions to a tie for sixth place at the 2014 JMU Eagle Landing Invitational.  The team holds a total score of 601 to tie with Western Carolina and sits only 12 strokes behind tournament leader Georgia State.

“Today we put together a good number and moved up a couple spots,” said head coach Sarah Trew.  “I can’t say enough about Megan [VanEtten]’s round today and her 73 after yesterday.  I think the team is energized after today and is ready to get out there again tomorrow and see if we can put up our best score of the tournament.”

Megan VanEtten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School) and Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) both carded 1-over scores of 73 to lead the Eagles in the second round.  Price produced five birdies in her round with just three bogeys through the first 17 holes but carded a triple bogey on 18 to bring her total score to 3-over.  VanEtten carded bogeys on four and 18 with a birdie on nine to finish at 1-over.

After being disqualified in the first round VanEtten remains unranked in the tournament field, while Price maintains an overall ranking of 10th place in the field of 93 golfers with a total score of 146.

Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central High School) carded a 78 in the second round and sits at 24th in the field.  Guoynes shot 1-under in the first round but carded bogeys on six holes in the second round to hold an overall score of 149.

Senior Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus High School) produced a score of 76 in the second round and sits among the top-30 at a tie for 28th with a score of 150 on the weekend.  Carlson carded three bogeys on the front nine before completing a nearly perfect back nine with just one bogey on 11.

Rounding out the lineup was Rebecca VanEtten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School) who finished the second round with a score of +11 to rank 83rd in the field.  The sophomore carded one double-bogey and eight bogeys in her second round and holds a tournament score of 166.

Sophomore Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) competed as an individual in the tournament and finished the second round tied at 32nd.  Khuan Yong carded four bogeys and a birdie on 15 for a 3-over score.

This three-day event is in its sixth year and includes 16 teams. The Landing Golf Club features a par-72 open links style course designed by Clyde Johnston.  The course is laid out over 7,037 yards.  The Eagles will tee off for the third round between 8:45 and 9:21 a.m. on Sunday, each starting on the first hole.
