FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU women’s golf team is second after day one of the FGCU Fall Invitational at Miromar Lakes.
“We had a pretty good day, currently we are in 2nd place, but tomorrow we have some moving up to do,” said head coach Holly Vaughn. “Heather had nice round today, but as a team, we gave a few shots away on the back nine and have to make a move up the board tomorrow.”
FAU leads the event after shooting a 296. June Blome of FAU leads after round one after shooting even par on the day. Two more Owls are tied for second with FGCU’s Heather Hagerman (New Port Richey, Fla.) who fired a 73 in the opening round. The Eagles are 11 strokes behind with a team score of 307. Maria Venot (Caracas, Venezuela) is currently in eighth place with a 77 in the opening round. Amber Pedersen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) is just one shot behind and tied for 11th. Courtney Figueroa (Naples, Fla.) shot a 79 and is in 15th place to round out the scoring for the Eagles.
The Eagles team score of 307 is five strokes ahead of Stetson who is in 3rd with a 312. The Tournament will conclude tomorrow, getting under way at 8:30 am. The Eagles will tee-off at 9:20 am.
