GLENCOE, Ala. – One round remains at the 15th annual Chris Banister Classic and the FGCU women’s golf team currently sits in fourth overall. After finishing Sunday’s opening round in fifth place, the Eagles improved their team score by two strokes on Monday to move up a spot on the leaderboard at the Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Ala.
After finishing Sunday in fifth place with a 316, the round of 314 on Monday brought the Eagles’ two-day total to 630 and moved them into the fourth spot on the team leaderboard.
Tournament host Jacksonville State fired another round of 300 to remain atop the leaderboard at 600 (300-300), while defending champion Lamar University stays in second place with a 617 (309-308). Mercer University sits eight strokes ahead of FGCU with a 622 (315-307), putting them in third overall.
On the individual leaderboard, freshman newcomer Megan VanEtten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) continues to pace the Eagles. VanEtten enters the final round of play in a two-way tie for ninth place with a 153 (76-77). Just two strokes back of VanEtten, sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) is in a share of 11th place, submitting a 155 (77-78).
Jacksonville State’s Lucia Fernandez claims the top individual spot moving into the last day of competition, turning in a scorecard of 145 (73-72).
The final round of the Chris Banister Classic gets underway with a 7:30 a.m. start on Tuesday morning.
