Women's Golf Finishes Day One at USF-Waterlefe Invite

BRADENTON, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf team wrapped up the opening two rounds of play at the USF-Waterlefe Invitational on Monday in Bradenton, Fla. The Eagles sit in sole possession of eighth place on the 19-team leaderboard, while freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) leads the Blue and Green heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Sitting in a two-way tie for fourth with a opening round 304, the Blue and Green submitted a second round 317 to slide into eighth place on the leaderboard with a combined 621 . Nova Southeastern leads the field with a 592 (294-298) with Daytona State just three strokes back at 595 (296-299). Tournament host USF holds third place heading into the final day with two-round score of 608 (303-305).

In the field of 103, Van Etten leads the Eagles through the first day of competition. The newcomer shot a 75 to start the day and finished with a 151 (75-76), putting her in a split for 11th on the individual board. Sitting just a stroke back of Van Etten, sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) is tied for 16th with a 152 (71-81) while senior Lina Elmsater’s (Stockholm, Sweden/Pfeiffer University) 153 (76-77) shares 20th overall. Daytona State’s Mitsuki Katahira sits atop the leaderboard with a 137 (69-68).

With the final round remaining, the USF-Waterlefe Invitational picks up again on Tuesday morning at the Waterlefe Golf and River Club.
