FORT MYERS, Fla. – Set to compete in their third tournament of the fall season, the FGCU women’s golf team will tee-off at the 33rd annual Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU at the Pelican Preserve Golf Club in Fort Myers, Fla. At last year’s event, the Eagles placed 10th overall as sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) led the way with a score of 217 (70-73-74), which placed her in a tie for sixth place overall. Also placing in the individual top-20, senior Lina Elmsater (Stockholm, Sweden/Pfeiffer University) tied for 15th overall, turning in a scorecard of 222 (74-72-76).
In their most recent outing at the Waterlefe Invitational (Oct. 4-5), the opening round team score of 304 put the Blue and Green in a two-way tie for fourth overall, and a second round 317 placed the five-member squad in sole possession of eighth place with a combined 621. The Eagles bounced back with their best round on the final day, firing a 303 and moved up two spots into sixth on the team leaderboard with their tournament total at 924.
Ranking among the leaders in par 3 scoring (+2), par 4 scoring (+6) and birdies (7), freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) led the Eagles through Waterlefe’s final round, matching her best round of three-over par 75 and wrapping up the competition with a 75-76-75/226 for a four-way share of 12th overall.
Just one stroke back of Van Etten, Carlson concluded the event in a tie for 16th with a 227 (71-81-75) after shooting a 75 on the final day. Carlson claimed FGCU’s best single-round of the tournament over the opening holes with a one-under par 71 for the Eagles and finished among the best in par 4 scoring (+5), par 5 scoring (+1) and total pars (34).
Senior Katerina Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast HS) and junior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) join Elmsater, Van Etten and Carlson to round out the five-member squad at this weekend’s event.
