DeLand, Fla. – Following two rounds of play at the Stetson Invitational at the Victoria Hills Golf Club, the FGCU women’s golf team sits in sixth place on the nine-team leaderboard. Sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) sits in a tie for sixth place overall heading into Tuesday’s final round.
The Eagles opened the day with a 318 to place themselves in sixth overall and retained their position with a six-stroke improvement in round two for a day one total of 630 (318-312). With scores of 593, Jacksonville (302-291) and Daytona State (307-286) share the top spot, while host Stetson sits in third place with a 599 (300-299) moving into tomorrow’s finale.
Carlson paced the Eagles through the opening day of the competition with rounds of three-over par 75 and two-over par 74, respectively, for a total of 149 and a share of sixth on the 45-player leaderboard entering the final round.
Also contributing to the Eagles’ score, junior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) carded back-to-back 79s for 23rd overall, while freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) handed in a 160 (81-79), for sole possession of 26th. Additionally, senior Katerina Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast HS) submitted a two-round total of 163 (83-80).
The final round of the Stetson Invitational gets underway from the Victoria Hills Country Club on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
