FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) finished in second place on the individual leaderboard at the spring opening 2011 JU Classic on Tuesday, en route to her first Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Golfer of the Week Award, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
After finishing the opening round in a share of 10th on Sunday, Carlson rebounded with a three-over 75 on the final day to jump into sole possession of second place on the 40-player board with a 151 (76-75) at the rain-shortened 36-hole event. While sinking a total of five birdies, Carlson also ranked among the best in par 5 scoring at even-par.
As a team, the Blue and Green held fourth place with a 313 following Sunday’s opening round. Due to heavy rain in the area on Monday, the tournament was shortened to 36-holes set to resume on Tuesday. The Eagles retained their fourth place spot on the leaderboard at tournament’s end, carding a 323 for a two-day total of 636.
The conference changed from honoring golfers monthly to weekly beginning this spring.
