FORT MYERS, Fla. – After earning medalist honors at the 2011 UC Spring Invitational, sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) received the Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Week award, announced by the league office on Wednesday. It marks the third time this season Carlson has earned the accolade.
Opening with a two-over par 74 on Friday at the UC Invite, Carlson came back with a two-under 70 on Saturday and concluded with her best round of the season, a five-under 67, in Sunday’s finale to finish atop the 120-player leaderboard with a three-round total of 211 (74-70(-2)-67(-5)).
With top five finishes in each of the three tournaments this spring, Carlson has been rewarded with the A-Sun Golfer of the Week honor following each of the competitions. The Inverness, Fla. native opened the season with a second place finish at the JU Classic (Feb. 6-8) and followed with a fourth place finish at the JMU Invite (March 11-13).
As a team, the Blue and Green moved up the team leaderboard in each of the three rounds at the UC Invite. The Eagles opened in a tie for 18th and moved into the 15th spot following Saturday’s second round. With a team score of 307 in the final round, FGCU submitted a final scorecard of 935 (323-305-307) to finish in a two-way tie with Marshall for 11th overall.
The Blue and Green return to the course as they head to Jacksonville, Fla. for the World of Golf tournament beginning April 3. It will be the Eagles final tune-up before heading to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship (April 11-13).
