Women's Golf Finishes Day One at Hall of Fame Classic

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Through two rounds of play at the Hall of Fame Classic at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla., the FGCU women’s golf sits in tie for fourth place. Sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) holds a share of third overall heading into Tuesday’s final round.

The Blue and Green combined for a 314 to sit alone in fourth place on the nine-team leaderboard following the opening round of play on Monday. As the second round of the day came to a close, the Eagles retained their position with a combined 631 (314-317), tying with Cincinnati (325-306) in fourth place.

With a two-round score of 611 (308-303), Daytona State College leads the field, sitting just three strokes ahead of Stetson (313-301/614) heading into the final round.

Continuing her strong play from the previous two tournaments, Carlson leads the Eagles following back-to-back rounds of three-over par 75 for a total of 150. The Inverness, Fla. native is in a three-way tie for third on the 51-player leaderboard with one round remaining.

Also contributing to the Blue and Green scorecard, senior Lina Elmsater (Stockholm, Sweden/Pfeiffer University) is tied for 24th with a 161 (81-80), while classmate Katerina Toomalatai (Palm Coast, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast HS) has a day one total of 163 (86-77). In a share of 35th, junior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) (80-85) and freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) (78-87) each submitted scores of 165 through the two rounds. 

Sitting alone atop the individual leaderboard, Daytona State’s Mitsuki Katahira holds a 141 after an opening round 73 and a four-under par 68 in round two.

The final round of play gets underway from the World Golf Village with an 8 a.m. start on Tuesday morning. Results and recaps from the final day will be available at www.FGCUAtheltics.com following the event.
