Haremza Paces Eagles in Round Two at A-Sun Championship
DeLAND, Fla. – In Tuesday’s second round at the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at the Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand, Fla., the FGCU women’s golf team moved up on the team leaderboard, ending the day in fifth place overall. With one round remaining, junior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) sits in a share of second place on the individual leaderboard.
The Eagles played well to start Monday’s opening round, but finished the day in sixth place with a 306 following a tough stretch on the back nine. Combining for a 308 on Tuesday, the Blue and Green moved into fifth place in the 10-team field, holding a two-round score of 614.
Kennesaw State led the field after round one, but Campbell sits atop the leaderboard entering the final round of play with a two-day total of 600 (297-303). The Owls sit just two strokes back in second place with a 602 (294-308), while Stetson and ETSU share third with scores of 603 (298-305).
Sitting in a tie for second place overall, Haremza continues to lead the Eagles with a score of 147. The Wildermen, South Africa native opened play with a three-over par 75 on Monday, but came back with an even-par 72 in round two to move just two strokes back of the leader.
Also adding to the Blue and Green scorecard, sophomore Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) submitted a three-over par 75 to move into 10th place with a 151 (76-75) and, with back-to-back rounds of 78, freshman Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) holds a score of 156 for a split of 24th. Senior Lina Elmsater (Stockholm, Sweden/Pfeiffer University) rounded out the Eagles’ scoring with a two-day total of 160 (77-83).
Stetson’s Alex Buelow submitted a two-over par 74 in round two, but still holds a slight two-stroke lead over Haremza and Campbell’s Michelle Koh with a tournament leading score of 145 (71(-1)-74). Three players sit three shots off the leader with scores of 148.
The decisive round of the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at the Victoria Hills Golf Club is set to commence on Wednesday morning, with the Eagles teeing off at 8 a.m. Live scoring is provided at www.GolfStat.com.
