LINCOLN, Neb. – Through two rounds of the play at the season-opening Chip-N Club Invitational at the Country Club of Lincoln, the FGCU women’s golf team sits in eighth place on the 15-team leaderboard. Individually, senior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar Univeristy) leads the Eagles, holding 11th place overall.
The Green and Blue combined for an opening round score of 317 to position themselves ninth on leaderboard. Improving their team score by four strokes in round two, the Eagles ended the first day with a score of 630 (317-313) to move up one spot into eighth place with one round remaining. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sits just head of FGCU with a 621 (311-310) and Akron trails the Eagles by seven strokes, 318-319/637.
Redlands Community College sits atop the leaderboard with a two-round total of 613 (312-301).
Haremza paced the Green and Blue through the two rounds of competition. After opening with an 81 in round one, the senior bounced back with an even-par 72 in the second round of the afternoon for a day one total of 153, good for 11th place in the 80-player field.
Junior Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus HS) also sits inside the top 20 entering the final round of play, currently in a share of 18th overall after submitting a 155 (78-77). Sitting in a tie for 35th, sophomore Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) carded back-to-back rounds of 80 for a score of 160.
Competing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) finished the afternoon with a 163 (78/85). Also in her first tournament for the Green and Blue, junior transfer Cassie Cleary (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS/Daytona State College) turned in a 171 (87-84).
