FORT MYERS, Fla. – Competing at the 34th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational, hosted by FIU at the Pelican Preserve Golf Club in Fort Myers, Fla., the FGCU women’s golf team concluded Tuesday’s final round in ninth place on the 15-team leaderboard. Senior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) led the Green and Blue, placing in a tie for 13th individually.
Following rounds of 311 and 303, respectively, on Sunday and Monday, the Eagles submitted a score of 319 in the final round, to bring their tournament score to 933 which was good for ninth place overall. Finishing nine shots better than Daytona State (328-306-308/942) and Delaware (317-313-312/942), FGCU sat seven strokes back of eighth place Bradley (311-308-307/926). Tournament host FIU took the team title with a three round score of 303-289-290/882.
Supplying the Eagles’ best score for the second time at the event on Tuesday, Haremza closed the tournament with a 78, bringing her scorecard to 72-78-78/228 to place 13th on the 80-player leaderboard. Sitting in a two-way share of first place following Sunday’s opening round, the Wilderman, South Africa native finished among the tournament leaders in par 4 scoring (+7), par 5 scoring (+1) and total birdies (6).
Among the leaders in total pars, the freshmen duo of Kristin Swindell (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River HS) and Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) each finished in a tie for 30th overall. With 36 total pars, Swindell provided a three day score of 79-76-79/234, while Price carded a 77-73-84/234 with a total of 37 pared holes.
Junior Cassie Cleary (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS/Daytona State College) contributed a counting score (80) for the second straight day on Tuesday, bringing her tournament score to 85-76-80/241 and placing her 56th in the field. Cleary also finished among the tournament’s best with five total birdies at the event.
With a score of 83-85-82/250, freshman Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) rounded out the five-member Eagle team, finishing in a share of 67th overall.
The Eagles will return to the course for their final tournament of the fall season when they travel to DeLand, Fla. to take part in the Holiday Inn Express Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson on Nov. 7-8. The event will open with 36 holes on Monday and conclude with a final round on Tuesday. Results and recaps from the tournament will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com following each day.
